Lessons from a LEGO Master Builder

I’d like to start this story by admitting that I am not a LEGO Master Builder. I barely have enough imagination to build something out of blocks that isn’t just a bigger block.

⁣⁣So when G asked me to drop what I was doing to play LEGOs, I asked him, “...but why?”⁣⁣⁣ ⁣

“Because you always say you don’t know how to play LEGOs and I want you to become a Master Builder!”⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣

I don’t know about you, but I have no will power to decline such an adorable offer - and challenge!⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣

We spent HOURS building (holy crap my neck). And I learned so much that I needed to share it with you.

LESSONS I LEARNED FROM A LEGO MASTER BUILDER

  • Surrender to instructions even if it doesn’t make sense at the time. “This is crazy! You really want me to do this?! Okay fine!” -G talking to the instruction booklet⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣

  • Spend the time to find the right piece, and NEVER giving up until you find it. (Even if you have to move the couch and piano cause you KNOW it exists.) I wanted to replace pieces immediately but G commanded unwavering faith, and I’m glad we didn’t stop searching.⁣⁣⁣

  • There will be many false alarms that you screwed up. But if you did, get used to being okay with taking two steps back to get back to the right path.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣

  • “This thing keeps getting harder and harder - but you can’t just give up!” ⁣-G⁣⁣ ⁣⁣

  • When the student wants an opportunity to become the teacher, let them. It’s freaking humbling. ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣

Me: “And what are you going to be doing while I build this? “⁣⁣
G: “Watching you! To see if you do it perfect!”⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣

Are you the master builder in your family? Which lego lesson did you need to hear today?
